This checklist includes the 166 species of birds documented to date in Denali National Park and Preserve and their general seasonal occurrence. The occurrence codes are a general guide to help visitors know what birds they are likely to see and when they are likely to see them.
Denali is an enormous park and observing many species of birds here requires patience, persistence and visiting different habitats in different seasons. Further, the abundance of some species including Ruffed Grouse, Northern Hawk Owl, and White-winged Crossbill varies substantially among years and these species may not be observed in all years.
English names and phylogenetic sequence follows the A.O.U. Checklist of North American Birds (7th edition, 1998) and supplements. Please report all interesting and unusual observations to park personnel.
