Noatak National Preserve

Catching, cutting, and drying salmon is an important tradition and food source for Alaska Natives and local people. Noatak National Preserve sustains the Noatak River, which nourishes healthy runs of fish and wildlife for people and the ecosystem. The 6.7 million acre preserve is an internationally recognized Biosphere Reserve which encourages research and stewardship. The preserve protects 280 miles of the Noatak, a National Wild River, and its intact watershed of countless streams, the De Long and Baird mountains, and true wilderness. Along the river basin from deep in the Brooks Range to the Chukchi Sea, people have traveled on the river and lived off the land for 11,000 years.
