Bering Land Bridge National Preserve

Long ago Alaska and Russia were connected by a land bridge known as Beringia. Pre-historic wildlife such as the woolly mammoth, steppe bison, and giant short-faced bear traveled across hemispheres on the Bering Land Bridge. People followed, bringing with them their culture and way of life. Today Alaska Natives continue to live closely connected to the land, hunting and fishing and using the same sites as their ancestors for centuries. Water now exits where there used to be land, but the bridge continues in the people and wildlife. Bering Land Bridge National Preserve celebrates these lasting connections from the past, the present, and the future.
